EVANS MATCH |
|
| The Evans match (postponed
from Tuesday) on Friday continued the excitement from both the boys and
girls varsity, with each team scoring high games. The boys team secured
the easy victory 3054 to 1715. Their first set of games saw them just
short of 1000 by three pins. Jon Ladines led the series with a 642; James
Morris had the high game of 231. Four of the regular starters averaged
over 200 for the day.

Coaches Comments:Boy's Varsity: The second game seemed to give them the desire to shoot their second 3000 series. Their second set of 1079 was enough to give them a good cushion going in to the final games and the room for me to make substitutions. I knew that they really wanted to 3000 series, but I also wanted to allow two subs from the JV to roll in the match. Both subs (Barnett and Cummins) did what was needed to keep the score well over 3000. Girl's Varsity: All girls rolled some nice games. Steff Baer and Darrah Preston, usually serving as substitutes, had to roll all three games and seemed to lose some momentum in the last game. Even with the lower scores from them, the team bowled well over 700. I was quite pleased with everyone’s effort. |

EDGEWATER MATCH |
|
|
The Apopka Darters bowling teams competed against Edgewater on Thursday, September 21, in a Baker match and continued their perfect season with a victory from all four teams. The boys team began with a slow start, giving Edgewater the momentum needed to take the lead after the second game, bowling a 222 game against the Darter’s 188 game. The Darters came back with three 200+ games to pull out the easy 994-831 victory. James Morris and Jon Ladines led the team with 90% marks, including six strikes out of ten frames each.
The girls team also continued their winning with a 780 to 666 victory over Edgewater. The second game proved to be break that the girls needed to pull out in front to stay, bowling a really nice 234 game. Jenna Cardenas led the team with 90% marks. Ashley Preston contributed with 70% marks.
Both JV teams were victorious as well. The boys JV team defeated Edgewater 731 to 589. To secure the victory, the team bowled two games over 180. Shaun Barnett led the team with 100% marks, including a string of 9 strikes. Joseph Cummins with 90% marks and Matt Inman with 80% marks helped secure the victory.
The girls JV won their match 586 to 526. They began the competition
with a nice 166 game to give them a comfortable lead that they never
lost. Stephanie Baer led the team with 60% marks; Rachel Totaram contributed
with 50% marks. |

Coaches Comments:Boy's Varsity: We just couldn’t seem to get the breaks needed in the first game, with all five starters struggling to make their marks. However, after Edgewater bowled two nice games, our boys seemed to get the determination to do whatever it took to improve their game. They ended with a nice 226 game for the day. Girl's Varsity: We had the choice of bowling for total pins or by games won, and chose to go with total pins. Had we chosen the second method, we would have had to do a roll-off as we tied in the 4th game, leaving each with two games. Although both teams wanted to bowl ten-pin instead of Baker, this gives them practice because both the district and state tournaments will be using both this year. Boy's JV: The team has started to come together and gain more confidence. Shaun (Barnett) has again given them the stability needed to continue to improve their games and bowl with more confidence. Girl's JV: The girls did a very good job, considering this was their first match play. Very few schools have a girls JV, so I was happy that they could pull out a victory against Edgewater. |
