BOONE MATCH

The boys varsity bowling team suffered their first loss Monday, October 9, against a strong Boone team in a very close match. The first game of the match set the tone for the day, with Boone bowling a 245 game against Apopka’s 221. The first two games were very close, with Boone maintaining the lead. The third game allowed the Darters the chance to gain ground and take the lead, but they were unable to maintain that lead until the end of the match.Although the boys bowled some high games, the match was decided in the final game as they came two pins shy of the victory, losing 969 to 971. Jon Ladines bowled a perfect series with 100% marks.

The girls varsity bowling team defeated Boone in another very close match, winning their match by four pins, 679 to 675. The girls started the match with a 25 pin lead, but that lead dropped to 34 pins behind in the third game. The Lady Darters battled back to take the final two games and the edge over Boone. Ashley Kleier led the girls with 70% marks. The girls record is now 11-1.

The boys JV bowlers lost their match to Boone 672 to 690. The boys began the match down 13 pins after the first game, but bounced back to take a 5 pin lead after the second game. In the next two games, Boone slowly edged back into the match and took a commanding lead in the final game. Shaun Barnett led the team with 80% marks.

The girls JV bowling team easily won their match 531 to 490. The girls also began the match down 14 pins, but took the lead after the second game. They continued to build on that lead through the next two games. Samantha Smith had the high mark percentage for the girls.

Coaches Comments:

Boy's Varsity: We had some real problems converting our spares, and you can’t win games if you can’t close the frame. We bowled an extremely low fourth game, as did Boone, and when you have those problems you allow the other team the chance to take the win.

Girl's Varsity: The girls did not bowl as well as they should have, with three below-average games. In order to be competitive, we need to keep consistent scores and marks. We just aren’t doing that. The mark percentages indicate that they, too, need to work on spare conversions before District play.

Boy's JV: Our boys bowled well, but couldn’t overcome the Boone team. They just need the experience of adapting to different houses and different lane conditions.

Girl's JV: The cushion that we built was really needed in the final game as Boone outscored us 138 to 93. We lost our edge in the final game as Boone gained theirs. Without the needed spare conversions, it is hard to win unless you have built up that cushion.

CIRCLE CHRISTIAN MATCH

On Wednesday, October 11, the boys varsity had their second match of the week against Circle Christian and secured the victory with a score of 994 to 878. The match began with visions of the recent defeat fresh on the boys’ minds as Circle took a commanding lead, 210 to 179. David Parker led the team with 100% marks. James Morris, who entered the match in the third game, also had 100% marks.

Coaches Comments:

Boy's Varsity: The boys started feeling as if we would have a repeat of Monday’s match. After a quick pep talk between games, the boys began to improve their scores, with each game showing higher scores. This was the confidence builder that they needed to bounce back from their first loss. We still need to gain consistent marking in all games in order to be competitive next month.
